Lanarkshire couple's takeaway joy as curry helps bring overdue baby into the world

Mum-to-be Sara Yardley called for a curry – and got one of the first deliveries of 2022.

Daughter Elleanor-Rae arrived on New Year's Day at 12.09am.

Weighing in at 7lb 14oz she was born at Wishaw General to mum Sara, 23, and dad Darren, 34, and is a baby sister for brother Jaxon, three.

Her parents met at award-winning East Kilbride restaurant Auld Raes, which helped inspire their girl’s name.

Proud mum Sara, from Stonehouse, told Lanarkshire Live: “She was due on Christmas Day, but never appeared.

“We were due to be induced next week so were just planning on having a quiet Hogmanay.

“We had called for a curry takeaway about 6pm. I had just sat down to eat my korma when I started getting contractions.

“I had heard curries can bring on labour, but I didn’t think it would work that quickly.”

The family got out of the NHS Lanarkshire hospital just hours after the birth and were already home on the afternoon of January 1.

Darren added: “She’s named after both our grans – Elleanor and Rae.

"I named my restaurant after my gran and that’s where we met, so its got a nice meaning behind it. We couldn’t be happier for our wee family.”
