Lanarkshire councils to hold employment events for redundant Dawnfresh workers

Employment support events are being arranged for the 200 Dawnfresh employees who lost their jobs when the seafood firm went into administration this week.

North Lanarkshire Council is arranging the sessions alongside both neighbouring South Lanarkshire and Skills Development Scotland, through redundancy support programme PACE.

Council leader Jim Logue called the Uddingston factory’s immediate closure “devastating news for the employees” and said: “The council will do everything possible to provide the help they need.”

Recruiters from local firms will be in attendance at the sessions at Hamilton town hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 8 and 9, along with representatives of Routes to Work and Business Gateway Lanarkshire.

Information on job hunting, benefits and managing money will also be available from members of North Lanarkshire’s financial inclusion team and the Department of Work and Pensions.

A redundancy support webinar took place on Wednesday – a day after it was announced that the company had entered administration with the immediate loss of 200 jobs after being “unable to overcome very serious financial problems at the Uddingston facility”.

Councillor Logue said: “We have moved quickly to set up the two events where we’ll have advice and information on available jobs in the area, training opportunities and money advice.

“A number of local employers with vacancies have also been invited and we hope to find new jobs for some of those who have been made redundant.”

Information on the PACE scheme is available online.
