Lanarkshire councillor announces he will not stand for re-elections in May

A Hamilton councillor has announced that he will not stand for re-election in the upcoming local elections in May.

Councillor Josh Wilson (Hamilton South) is chair of the Housing and Technical Resources Committee and announced that he will be standing down at the end of his term.

He will go on to do research for Jabil Technology.

Cllr Wilson said: “It has been an honour to represent Hamilton since 2017 and to work for the SNP locally since 2010. I’m particularly proud of our work to build more council houses over the past five years and to reduce long-term homelessness substantially.

“The last few years have been tough, but from the pandemic has come committed community activists ready to do their bit to make Hamilton a better place for us all. I wish them all the best in the future.

“This hasn’t been easy, but I will continue to work hard for my constituents until my successor is elected.”

He added: “I have taken the decision not to seek re-election in May.

"It has been a privilege to serve the people of Hamilton as your councillor and lead on housing across South Lanarkshire.

“I’m proud of the progress our administration has made over the past five years and it’s been a pleasure to work alongside a committed team of SNP Councillors – particularly my good pal and ward colleague John Ross, SNP Cllr Hamilton South and Leader of South Lanarkshire Council.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me since I was elected back in 2017.”

The Scottish local elections will take place on May 5 this year.
