Lanarkshire council invites new tenders to replace a bridge in Clydesdale

South Lanarkshire Council are inviting new tenders to replace a bridge in Clydesdale.

Council officers have completed carrying out an exercise which looked at the options available to replace Clyde Bridge, on Pettinain Road near the Carstairs Junction.

Market conditions are affecting the construction industry, the preferred and proposed route of the council is to return to the market and invite tenders to carry out the replacement.

Colin Park, head of roads and transportation, told Lanarkshire Live : “It has been a frustrating period for all involved with this project.

"However, recommencing the procurement stage of the project is a real positive step forward as we look to deliver on the commitment to build a replacement bridge at this location.

“Given the financial pressures the evaluation criteria have been adjusted to provide a greater focus on prices, while an appropriate level of technical/quality will also be secured.”

A shorter validity period for the tenders will also be adopted to allow contractors to submit more definitive prices.

The new tender package will be available by mid-April with a return expected by late/early autumn followed by a delivery programme being developed.

Clyde Bridge was closed in 2018 due to it being deemed as unstable, the council have since secured extra funding to carry out the replacement.
