Lanarkshire council asks kids to take Lat Flow Tests before returning to school

Secondary school pupils in South Lanarkshire are being asked to take a lateral flow test before returning to the classroom on Wednesday.

Schools across the county are also requesting that all youngsters take further home COVID tests twice a week as the new term gets underway, as concerns continue to grow over the spread of the Omicron variant.

South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) posted 'testing' reminders for parents/carers of pupils on social media on Tuesday.

They were also reminded that schools across the area have testing kits available at their school office.

Should any young person test positive, they are being asked to book a PCR test immediately.

Pupils are also being asked to stay at home if they develop any coronavirus symptoms, for example loss of taste or smell, a new persistent cough or a high temperature.

If they record a positive PCR, they must self isolate for 10 days and each member of their household must do the same.

Pupils are also being asked to hand sanitise as they enter the school building and on entering each classroom.

They must also ensure to wear their face covering, unless medically exempt.

Enhanced ventilation will be in place in school buildings with windows and doors open to allow fresh air to circulate and pupils being reminded that given the colder weather, classrooms may be slightly cooler.

Other mitigations such as one-way systems, split intervals and staggered lunchtimes will also be in place.

An SLC spokesman said: "May I thank all of our parents and carers - and of course our young people - for their continued support and cooperation throughout this difficult period."
