And around 5.15pm on Friday, March 19, a third incident took place when a man approached a woman on Stewartfield Crescent.

Police are continuing to carry out enquires to establish if these incidents are linked.

Inspector David Doherty, Police Scotland’s East Kilbride community policing unit, said: “We understand incidents of this nature are concerning for the local community but I would like to reassure them that we have an increased police presence in the area and are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this.

“I would ask if anyone notices anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in touch with officers.

“Anyone who has any concerns surrounding these incidents or has had a similar encounter, please get in contact with police.”

Councillor Collette Stevenson, who is running as MSP candidate for East Kilbride in May’s parliamentary elections, has called on the police to make sure woman feel safe in the area.

Speaking to the News, she said: “At today’s Safer South Lanarkshire’s, I sought assurances from Chief Superintendant Alan Waddell that action has been taken to ensure these incidents are being properly investigated and there is no further threat to our residents.

“It is extremely concerning that young women cannot walk our streets safely and especially in light of the recent murder of Sarah Everard.

“We need to ensure women are safe and can walk our communities without fear of sexual attacks.

“As we see lockdown restrictions easing we need women to be confident that they can go out of their homes.

“I understand Police Scotland are aware of the incidents and enquiries are underway with additional police presence in the area”.

Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 2899 of 17/03/21.
