Lanarkshire comic-book tycoon welcomes return of old Irn-Bru recipe

Coatbridge comic-book tycoon Mark Millar was left flying as high as one of the superheroes in his work after discovering the original Irn-Bru recipe is back on the shelves.

The 51-year-old creator of movies Kick-Ass and Kingsman turned his back on Scotland’s other national drink after a recipe change in 2018.

Back then, makers AG Barr tweaked the recipe in response to a sugar tax introduced by the UK Government.

However, last month the firm announced that Irn-Bru 1901, which uses sugar instead of sweetener, would make a permanent return to shops in 750ml glass bottles.

A delighted Mark, who once drank three cans of Irn-Bru a day, toasted AG Barr by saying: “I immediately bought a bottle of Irn Bru 1901 and it’s beautiful.

"I had forgotten just how great this tasted!”
