Lanarkshire college to hold first in-person graduation since pandemic struck

An East Kilbride-based college will host its first in-person graduations since the Covid pandemic struck in 2019.

The graduation ceremony is a highlight in the calendar of South Lanarkshire College and is a chance for students to celebrate their dedication and hard work.

Virtual graduation, at South Lanarkshire College, became the norm during the pandemic and the college has hosted a series of other online events including: open days, corporate events and classes to ensure that the college could still celebrate success, teach students and promote courses on offer despite the pandemic.

Since restrictions began to ease earlier this year, the college has been able to get ready to host its first in-person graduation ceremonies since October 2019.

The ceremonies will be delivered on campus and will be split into four separate events on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October, to allow for social distancing and give students the best possible experience for their special day.

In the run up to event the college will continue to refer to all Scottish Government Covid-19 guidelines.

South Lanarkshire College Principal and CEO, Aileen McKechnie, said: "It is an absolute privilege to congratulate each and every one of our very talented Higher National students.

"Graduation is a major highlight in our academic calendar, marking the progression of our Class of 2021 into the real world of work or further study.

"It is a celebration of accomplishment and of transition and I am delighted that we can all once again get together, face-to-face, to award student achievement”

All successful 2020/21 HN Graduates will be invited to join the ceremony, which will take place in an outdoor, heated marquee on campus.
