South Lanarkshire College turned a negative into a positive by donating over 70 meals to the local Salvation Army.
It came as tighter restrictions once again came into force due to the new COVID Omicron variant.
The meals, which had been prepared and cooked by professional cookery students and staff to serve in the college training restaurant during the final week of term running up to Christmas, were packaged and donated to the Salvation Army after the Christmas lunch programme was cancelled.
They will now be distributed to those in need across the community.
Interim associate principal Karen PhIllips told Lanarkshire Live : “The SLC training restaurant, which had just reopened, had been fully booked by guests for the Christmas period.
"External and internal customers had made arrangements to have their Christmas lunch prepared and served in the college restaurant in the run up to Christmas.
"Unfortunately, due to the new wave of COVID, we had to make the sad decision to cancel the bookings to ensure we kept our staff, students and visitors safe.
"The health and wellbeing of everyone, is our number one priority at SLC."
Karen added: "We were dismayed to think that any of the food the team had prepared would go to waste.
"We contacted the Salvation Army, one of our long-acquainted charities and we are delighted they can put the meals to good use.
"Everyone here at SLC wishes the people in our community and beyond, a happy, healthy and prosperous festive period."
