Lanarkshire coffee shop all charged up after electric bike deliveries prove a hit

By Matt Bryan

A leading Lanarkshire coffee shop is doing its bit to highlight climate change by using an e-bike for all its deliveries.

Roasted Café in Strathaven trialled the initiative with the help of Climate Action Strathaven who provided the bike.

And now they can have delicious food and hot coffee delivered to locals in minutes, whilst being completely environmentally friendly.

Louise Fogarty, who works at the shop, told Lanarkshire Live : "We actually didn't have a delivery service before, just for a time during the first lockdown.

"So we decided to trial this with the electric bike and so far it's been a success. It's been popular, particularly at the weekend.

"We seem to get a lot of delivery orders on a Saturday. It's just one of our staff using it, Reuben, he's our man.

"He's been enjoying it, he cycles quite a lot anyway, so it's been great for him.

"Our customers have been delighted with it And we're only doing the local area, so it's quite a quick turnaround for delivery.

"It's usually only about 10 to 12 minutes after customers phone in we get the order to them so it's been great."

The e-bike deliveries cover all of Strathaven, Sandford, Glassford and Chapelton.

On announcing the new delivery service, Roasted posted: "Picture this; you are pure hingin’ after a night out at The Waterside, you phone up the Roasted babes for a big fat toastie and get it delivered hot and fresh to your door ready to eat in your bed.

"This dream is now a reality, with the use of Climate Action Strathaven’s electric bike and the most able bodied roasted babe, unfortunately not Louise, Emma or Robin.

"Phone us up place your order (minimum order of £7.50 with a £2 delivery charge) and Reuben will have it with you asap pronto.

"Wee Reub' can manage anywhere in Strathaven, Glassford and Sandford and we will hopefully open it up to Chapelton in the next few weeks."

Climate Action Strathaven say they are delighted to be involved with the fun initiative.

The group added: "It’s been so good to see Roasted Strathaven making great use of our e-Cargo bike over the last few weeks to deliver their delicious goods .

"Save yourself a journey and get your lunch dropped to your door by a zero emission delivery."
