Lanarkshire charity king wants hikers to raise cash for kids

A Wishaw charity king is urging others to get their hiking boots on for a climb to help kids with life-limiting illnesses.

Earlier this year, Les Hoey and a team representing the DreamMaker Foundation, made their way up Tinto Hill in beautiful sunshine to raise around £5500 of much needed funds for the charity.

Now, Les and other volunteers will be climbing Ben Lomond on Saturday, August 14 in the hope of beating the previous total.

Les said: “Due to Covid a lot of our fundraising events stopped but we are still receiving children’s dream requests and have been providing gifts for as many kids as we can.

“We have got about a dozen people so far already signed but we are hoping a few more will sign up and help us.

“Our target is to raise around £5000 again which will be a big boost for us.”

Two Wishaw-based companies, the Good Dog Club and Clyde Scaffolding, have kindly agreed to sponsor the Ben Lomond climb.

Everyone taking part will be given a free T-shirt as well as drinks and snacks for the climb up.

Les added: “Hopefully it will give people some time to do a bit of training.

“I’ve been trying to get out as much as I can especially in the good weather.

“I am sure we will have a good number of people joining us on the day. If I can do it then anyone can.”

To sponsor Les and the team or to register an interest in taking part in the walk, log on to the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation Facebook page.

All participants must raise a minimum of £100 for the charity.
