Lanarkshire boxing promoter on Floyd Mayweather 'dream' show

A Lanarkshire boxing promoter says world boxing sensation Floyd Mayweather was a delight to work with when he brought him over for a sell-out show at the Armadillo in Glasgow earlier this month.

The show, put on by FSG Promotions and Goldstar Promotions, was organised by Fighting Scots Gym owner Francis Gilluley, who said the undefeated champion went out of his way to accommodate those who attended on March 6.

Mayweather won 15 major world titles in five weight divisions and was lineal champion in four weight classes, retiring with an undefeated record. The American won bronze at the 1996 Olympics, three US Golden Gloves Championships and a US National Championship, the latter at flyweight.

Francis said: “It was a massive crowd, a sell-out. It doesn’t get any bigger than that.

“We had been working on this for over a year, and there was a lot of hard work involved, but it was worth it – it made a lot of people very happy.

“Floyd is a hero of mine, it doesn’t get any bigger than this, and he’s one of the greatest boxers ever. It was nothing short of amazing, but our shows are always top level.

“He was great with the public when he got here, he spent a lot of time with people and signed a few things for people, which he wasn’t obliged to do; he really went out of his way to accommodate people and it was a terrific show.”
