Bingo fans made their long-awaited return to clubs across Lanarkshire today as both the North and South local authority areas moved down into level two coronavirus restrictions.
The change allowed bingo clubs to open their doors for the first time this year, with the facilities having been closed for all but three weeks of the past seven months.
Coatbridge venue Buzz Bingo welcomed back customers with free breakfast rolls and hot drinks, and invited local MSP Fulton MacGregor to cut a ribbon to mark their reopening.
Gordon Barr, the manager of the bingo hall at Faraday retail park, told Lanarkshire Live: “It’s been a fantastic day even even busier than expected – there were people in the car park an hour before we opened.
“It’s been good to see lots of familiar faces and new ones as well, and everyone feels it’s good to be back to normality, with social distancing in place.
“Being able to reopen is a relief and our customers are delighted to be back; it’s like a second family here for most of them and it’s great that they get to see the staff that they know, spend time with friends and have a great time.”
The company also reopened its Cumbernauld and Motherwell venues today, with “extensive health and safety measures” in place at all three venues including maximum capacities and plastic screens between players.
