Lanarkshire barbershop takes part in non-stop challenge to raise money

A Rutherglen barber has proven to be a cut above after raising money for a cancer charity.

Staff at Revival Room took part in a non-stop hair-cutting challenge for 24 hours on Monday, May 16 till the following day.

All money raised from the event at the Main Street store will be given to The Beatson Cancer Charity.

Ross McLaughlin from the store told Lanarkshire Live : “Everyone in the shop is involved, but it’s the owners David Murray and Jordan Rae that set it all up.

“This is the second time that David and Jordan have raised money for The Beatson, so we wanted to do it again.

“We have done a 24-hour marathon before, we had a client at the time who we still see and we chose to do it to raise a bit of money. It was difficult for us to take it all on board. We took it hard.

“Beatson Cancer charity touches 95 to 100 per cent of people around the whole of Scotland. We choose that because everyone is affected by cancer.

“We started at 8am on Monday and stopped on Tuesday morning at 8am. We took short breaks throughout the day for lunch and dinner.

"We will also have a raffle live on Instagram which will be drawn throughout the 24 hours. We’ve managed to get our hands on a signed Celtic top.

“We will also have different DJs throughout the day, with a buffet and drinks available.”

All five members of the shop took part in the challenge and items and said they had been kept busy throughout the day.

A spokeswoman from the Beatson told us: “We are so grateful for the support we’ve been shown by the team at Revival Rooms in Rutherglen.

“This is a fantastic way to raise money for our charity and incredibly generous for the staff to donate their time and services to supporting cancer patients and their families.”
