Lanarkshire adult weight management group now running free classes online

LANARKSHIRE'S free adult weight management group is now running online.

The digital Weigh to Go sessions are organised in partnership with Culture and Leisure North Lanarkshire and NHS Lanarkshire.

Previously held in local community venues, Culture and Leisure North Lanarkshire is running weekly online Zoom sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evening until December 6, in line with Coronavirus restrictions, for participants to take part in the comfort of their own home.

These instructor-led Zoom classes, will consist of a 45-minute healthy eating and lifestyle interactive chat followed by 45 minutes of a low impact exercise class.

Jonathan Cavana, weight management service manager, at NHS Lanarkshire, said: “We understand it’s been a stressful time throughout the Covid pandemic and with Lanarkshire now placed within tier four restrictions, which includes local gyms having to temporarily close, Weigh to Go online is a great chance to continue to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

“The programme incorporates both an education and physical activity element tailored to suit all fitness levels, and is open to anyone who wishes to join.

“Held by a friendly, qualified instructor, you will be supported on your journey to eat healthier and become more active.”

Melanie Menzies, health and wellbeing manager at Culture and Leisure North Lanarkshire, added: “We are delighted to be able to continue providing our hugely popular Weigh to Go programme via an online platform during the Covid pandemic.

“While we know people really enjoy face to face classes, we hope that providing these free, online interactive sessions will be a great alternative until our venues can restart our group fitness classes.

“We have had great success with moving many other of our fitness sessions online, and we’re looking forward to welcoming all attendees who wish to join.”

Anyone interested in joining the sessions is asked to email Melanie at melanie.menzies@nlleisure.com and she will provide full information and answer any questions you may have.
