Lanark United chairman George Reid relaxed about vacant managerial position

Lanark United chairman George Reid admits their managerial search is ‘on hold’ ahead of their season opener on Saturday.

Interim manager Colin Slater will be in charge for Larkhall Thistle’s visit to Moor Park.

Lanark will kick-start their West of Scotland League campaign without a permanent manager after Jamie McKenzie quit after becoming disillusioned.

Former boss Slater, who quit in October 2020 due to fears over Covid, is keen to return and Reid admits he’s relaxed about the situation after a 1-0 win over Forth Wanderers.

He said: “Colin will be in charge on Saturday. He’s got a great history with the club but we will see what happens.

“The search for a permanent manager is on hold because the focus from everyone at the club is on Larkhall Thistle.

“Jamie resigned with only 12 days to go until the start of a new season, so what could we do?

“We had guys sitting in the house not doing anything in football who were successful with us.

"They came in and everybody at the club worked hard, realising we were under pressure, and we got a great result against Forth.

“The plan this week is the same. We aren’t putting adverts out for a new manager and we aren’t worried about it.

“Jamie was frustrated over signing players and in hindsight, I wish we hadn’t played last season.

“We only agreed to play because I thought it would help us keep our players but it didn’t happen - the team broke up anyway.”
