Lanark boss Jamie McKenzie expects WoSFL call-off in next few days

Lanark United boss Jamie McKenzie is resigned to the fact that the West of Scotland League season will be cancelled.

The WoSFL released a statement last week stating that full contact training must return by Saturday, April 3 and competitive fixtures by Saturday, April 17 but that now looks almost impossible.

Lanark haven't played in months and McKenzie expects an imminent announcement to inform clubs that the season is over.

He said: "It's almost certain that it's going to be cancelled. The league put out a statement regarding specific dates but that timescale looks very unlikely.

"We'd need to be back training in just over two weeks and that's not going to happen. I'm expecting news in the next couple of days to say they've pulled the league.

"There's no other way they can go because returning in April just isn't going to happen.

"There is emphasis on League One and Two returning but they are paying thousands of pounds on testing. I just don't see how we can come back.

There is a growing consensus from managers that the focus should be on planning for a return next season and while McKenzie agrees, he sympathises with the bigger clubs.

He said: "We all just want closure from it and to know where we stand. Most managers will be already planning for next season but we need to know that we can move on.

"It's probably different for clubs like Clydebank and Darvel who have made big efforts to achieve promotion this season.

"But I think for everybody else it makes sense to call it a day. We can get back early and have a good pre-season and hopefully next season will bring a bit of normality."
