Lanark ASC youngster Justin Bone maintains impressive record

Lanark Amateur Swimming Club’s Justin Bone continued his unbeaten record in open water swimming in the penultimate meet of the season at Loch Venachar.

Justin finished first in the 11/12 years age group at the Scottish National Open Water Championships, winning the Scottish 1km title by two seconds in a close-fought race.

Bone, Millie McArthur and Abbigail McArthur were competing at the event, fresh from their GB open water debuts at Rotherham.

Abbigail competed in the 5km event, picking up a well deserved bronze, while sister Millie endured afternoon rain to finish fourth in the 13 years 2km race.

Coach Karen Kelly said: “Well done to all three. It was Justin’s first national title.

“A big ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers who ensured that this competition went ahead.

“On the Sunday afternoon the rain came down, but the open water swimmers are a different breed and gamely swam on.

“The final open water event is the West District Championships at Loch Ken at the end of August.”
