Lanark ASC swimmers smash records at Club Championships

Three Lanark Amateur Swimming Club swimmers set seven new club championships records at the town’s Lifestyles facility.

A total of 58 swimmers contested the annual event.

In the eight-years-and-under category, Emily Taylor, 7, broke Erin Snow’s 2010 records in the 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle.

Evi Mackie is now the fastest 10-year-old in the history of the club, over 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke. She broke Erin Snow’s 2012 records in 50m butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, and Sarah Lang’s 2014 mark in 50m freestyle.

Millie McArthur, 13, shattered Maya Andrew’s 2010 100m backstroke record in the 13/14 age group.

The 2019 club champions are:

8 years and under: Emily Taylor.

9/10 years: Evi Mackie, Charlie Barnstaple.

11/12 years: Ayla Miller, Justin Bone.

13/14 years: Millie McArthur, Euan McLeod.

15 years and over: Abbigail McArthur, Alistair Dunsmore.

Coach Karen Kelly said: “It was fantastic to see seven records taken down.

“Six of them were Erin Snow’s, who is one of the best swimmers Lanark has produced.

“If all our swimmers can match her commitment to training and produce these results, not just in the comfort of a home pool championship but on a bigger stage, the future looks bright for Lanark ASC.”
