Lana Del Rey says she had no idea about curfew at Glastonbury that led to cut off incident

Lana Del Rey has spoken of being cut off at Glastonbury – admitting she had no idea the lights would be turned out on her mid-set after she got on stage late because she was not quite done with her hair and make-up.

Her performance, headlining The Other Stage, was cut short after she started half an hour late. Glastonbury bosses cut off her microphone and switched off the screens to the crowds while she was midway through performing White Mustang. The crowd booed, wanting her to continue, but organisers said they had a strict curfew they had to abide by.

Del Rey then led the crowd in an acapella singalong of Video Games and walked into the crowd as they continued to sing.

In an interview with the Sunday Times she said: "I’ve heard of curfews before but I didn’t know they actually turned the lights off. I didn’t feel great about it, but I was a little confused because I don’t think I was ever in a position where somebody said, ‘If you do not finish by this time, everything will go out.'”

She said she was late as she wasn't ready in time – adding that "dressing up for gigs" was important to her.

She added: "I get dressed up for my shows while some folks don’t. For some reason that was a problem. I had books thrown at me in San Francisco by liberal female groups. I’ve been punched in the face in Brooklyn. Ten years ago, mentally I badly needed some beauty to come out of the chaos.”

She has announced her summer 2024 shows – including headline appearances at Primavera Sound and Reading and Leeds festivals.
