Lampard issues Edouard Mendy injury update as Chelsea suffer blow with key player missing

Frank Lampard has given the latest injury news ahead of Chelsea's Premier League return against Southampton tomorrow afternoon.

The Blues had several injury concerns coming out of the international break, with the big one being new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The 28-year-old picked up a thigh knock while training with Senegal and had been a doubt ahead of the match with the Saints this weekend.

And Lampard confirmed that Mendy will not be available for the match, having not quite recovered in time for the game.

"Mendy won't be fit for the match tomorrow, we hope the injury's not too long," Lampard confirmed.

There were also injury worries ahead of the match for Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante, and Lampard also stated the latest with those players.

"Thiago Silva after his trip, he's not unfit but he's not ready to play the game because of the travelling and the game that he played. So he won't be in the squad," Lampard added.

"Ben Chilwell is in the squad, so he's got over some of the feeling he had that took him out of the England squad around the injury he's had for a while now.

"Christian Pulisic is in the squad and fit to play, Hakim Ziyech in the squad, he's not fit to start but fit to participate for some minutes we hope."
