Lampard impressed by Postecoglou

Frank Lampard hails Ange Postecoglou after impressive debut Celtic campaign

EVERTON manager Frank Lampard admits he has been impressed with the work Ange Postecoglou has undertaken since taking the reins at Celtic last summer.

The Greek-Australian guided the Parkhead club to a cinch Premiership and Premier Sports Cup double in his first campaign in Scotland whilst overseeing a dramatic overhaul of the playing squad.

The former Yokohama F. Marinos boss has also stamped his authority on the team in a tactical sense, implementing a distinct style of play that is easy on the eye.

Chelsea legend Lampard - whose Everton side will face Celtic in the Sydney Super Cup in November after Rangers withdrew from the friendly tournament - has been watching Postecoglou from afar and believes he deserves a lot of credit for his success so far in Glasgow's East End.

“I’ve got an awful lot of respect for what Ange did last season at Celtic,” Lampard told News Corp Australia.

"It isn’t easy to hit the ground running in a league you’ve not worked in before.

"He did that really well, winning the title with a very definite style of play – a really exciting brand of football.

“It is hard to explain the atmosphere of an Old Firm game. The rivalry in Glasgow is one of the fiercest in world football and Ange embraced that challenge.

"It was a big achievement for him last year and it was impressive to see the way he went about it."
