LaMelo Ball scores team-high 14 points in NBL preseason debut

LaMelo Ball got his first taste of NBL competition on Friday and while he got off to a great start, his team, the Illawarra Hawks, didn’t.

In his NBL preseason debut, Ball scored a team-high 14 points and contributed two assists, three steals and a rebound. Meanwhile, the Hawks were blown out by Melbourne United 111-70 following a 23-point win against the Australian second division’s All-Star team on Saturday.

The Hawks are now 1-1 through two games in the preseason.

While Ball leading the Hawks in the scoring column would help improve his draft stock, he would benefit even more from helping the Hawks improve their record from last season. Last season, Illawarra finished No. 7 out of eight teams with a 12-16 record. Luckily, Ball has three more games until the scores start counting.

Ball and the Hawks will be back at it on Sunday to take on South East Melbourne Phoenix at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre in Albury. Tip off is at 12 p.m.
