LaMelo Ball on where his talent comes from: ‘I was born with it’

In the process of becoming one of the best prospects in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft, LaMelo Ball has had a unique upbringing largely in the spotlight. From the moment he and his brothers took the California basketball landscape by storm, a preteen LaMelo was thrust into the public eye.

As a result, his development has also taken place in the public light. Like his brothers, LaMelo’s playstyle is a unique one unlike any other prospect in his class. When recently asked during an interview about where his talent and basketball instincts have come from.

I’m going to say (I was born with it). And growing up always playing. Just playing basketball all over the place, you pick up stuff.

Like his oldest brother Lonzo, LaMelo doesn’t fit into the normal parameters of a guard prospect. His lack of a traditional upbringing brought with it complications. It also, as he noted in the interview, led to some unintended positives playing basketball across the world.

The result is a lot of questions about Ball’s future. He and Lonzo both possess incredible basketball IQ without much of a history of the basics in basketball. Both have unique jumpers, lots of questions about their offense and lots of excitement about what the future holds.
