LaMelo Ball on involvement with Big Baller Brand: ‘The brand is with me’

LaMelo Ball’s relationship with Big Baller Brand has had better days than where it currently stands midway through 2020. Neither Lonzo nor LaMelo has made much of a commitment to the brand since Alan Foster’s money-laundering scandal.

While Lonzo made some form of a commitment to the brand with a lyric in a song on his new album, LaMelo has remained largely silent about the brand. But in ESPN’s latest profile on the teenage phenom, Ball talked about Big Baller Brand and offered a quote that could be taken a couple of different ways.

“Definitely the brand is with me. It’s something that I had in the past. I had my own shoe in high school, like stuff I’ll never forget, like stuff I’ll love.”

The first sentence could certainly be interpreted as Ball saying he is with the brand. But the very next sentence indicates that he isn’t with the brand anymore.

Ball would certainly be the biggest sneaker free agent not just in the upcoming draft class but in recent memory. Only Zion Williamson, who signed with Air Jordan last year, will be in the same ballpark as Ball when it comes to a potential shoe deal.

If Ball’s future is with Big Baller Brand and the yare able to make a viable shoe, he could save the brand. Ball is already one of the most popular athletes on social media, teenager or not. Together with Lonzo, the two could drive a brand by themselves, so long as it’s properly run.
