LaMelo Ball got brutally denied trying to throw down a poster dunk in the Drew League

LaMelo Ball has put together multiple impressive showings at the Drew League this summer, which is great for LaMelo’s basketball future. The Drew League is a top pro-am league that NBA players frequent — albeit the games are played at a pickup-game pace.

But the league offers solid entertainment value in a slow time for the sports schedule, and LaMelo did his best to stun the packed crowd (and the internet) on Sunday. It just backfired spectacularly.

During his Drew League matchup with No Shnacks, LaMelo went isolation against former Kansas guard Brannen Greene and drove straight to the basket. Then, this happened:

I don’t think it would be a stretch to call that block the single, most spectacular defensive play of Brannen Greene’s basketball career. Sure, he got beat off the dribble, but he was able to recover and block LaMelo’s dunk attempt and send him to the floor.

LaMelo would get his revenge later in the game. He almost kicked Greene in the process.
