LaMelo Ball goes No. 4 to Chicago Bulls in latest 2020 NBA mock draft for The Ringer

The current trend of the 2020 NBA Draft may not be a positive one for LaMelo Ball. A recent report from the Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell indicated that Ball may be losing his grip on being a guaranteed top-three pick. That came roughly the same time as The Ringer’s latest mock draft was released that saw Ball fall out of the top three.

In the latest group mock draft, Ball dropped to the Chicago Bulls at No. 4. In their prior mock draft, he landed in Charlotte with the No. 3 pick.

“League sources say the Bulls are likely targeting a lead playmaker in the draft, which is why last week’s mock had them taking Killian Hayes. But LaMelo is the most talented passer in this class and is a tempting pick, although one that would immediately raise questions about Zach LaVine and Coby White’s futures in Chicago.”

The formula for Ball dropping, as it plays out in The Ringer’s mock, includes James Wiseman and Anthony Edwards being taken with two of the first three picks. Golden State, who doesn’t appear to be overly enamored by any of the top three prospects, would then select a prospect like Deni Avdija, leaving Ball as the odd man out.

In Chicago, he would be able to flourish in a backcourt next to one of Zach LaVine or Coby White, each players who excel most as scoring guards. He would also join a young core that already features the likes of Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. along with LaVine and White.
