LaMelo Ball gets 12 points, five assists and fouls out in first Illawarra Hawks preseason game

LaMelo Ball suited up for the Illawarra Hawks for the first time in their 23-point win on Saturday night.

The Hawks faced off against an Australian Indigenous All-Star team comprised of ex-NBL players and players from the NBL1, the league below the NBL.

Ball fouled out of the game midway through the fourth quarter after playing 17 minutes.

Ball came off the bench with coach Matt Flinn opting to start Emmett Naar (nine points and six assists) and Aaron Brooks (12 points and three three-pointers) in the backcourt for his teams first preseason game.

After checking into the game midway through the first quarter, Ball was productive early, knocking down two three-pointers in his first three minutes on the court.

Flinn continued to share the minutes around between his three point guards, with Ball starting in the second half and scoring the first basket of the half.

Unfortunately, he also picked up two fouls in the first 90 seconds of the half, taking his tally up to four for the game, just one away from fouling out.

Ball showcased his playmaking ability and finished with five assists while also racking up 6 rebounds.

The 18-year-old finished with 12 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and hit two of his five attempts from behind the arc but also turned the ball over six times.

The Hawks pre-season will continue next Friday night when they take on Melbourne United in Ballarat.
