LAMBTON Park could host the next fenced off-leash dog park in Newcastle, the council has revealed.
City of Newcastle has opened public consultation on where dedicated dog areas should pop up, with Armstrong Park and part of Lambton Park suggested as options.
Those areas ere chosen due to high demand in the suburb, while the council says it also plans to improve infrastructure for pets in areas including Islington, Adamstown and Maryland.
Consultation on the location will allow the council to go ahead with a more detailed design, which would also be put to the public before it goes for final approval.
Deputy lord mayor Declan Clausen said the council wanted to give the city's 45,000 dogs space to run free.
"A council survey found 60% of people want more fenced, off-leash dog areas in Newcastle and provided valuable insights on desired features such as shade, seating, signage and designated areas for small and large dogs," he said.
"This is reflected in the overwhelming success and popularity of the City's first fenced, off-leash dog park at Acacia Avenue, North Lambton, which opened last October and is enjoyed by countless two and four-legged friends on any given day."
Submissions can be made throught he council's website until 5pm on August 6.
