Lamborghini worth £300,000 wrecked as driver loses control then runs off on foot

This is what's left of a Lamborghini car thought to be worth around £300,000 after a driver lost control during heavy flooding.

The smashed-up luxury sports car was left at the side of the road after crashing through safety barriers - with the driver deciding to run off on foot before police arrived.

It's thought that the car aquaplaned causing what traffic officers described as "a very expensive mistake", as the MEN reports.

The incident took place on the M66 near to Ramsbottom in Greater Manchester earlier this morning.

The Lamborghini driver is said to have aquaplaned before smashing into the barrier (GMP Traffic)

Posting about the crash on Twitter , GMB Traffic wrote at 8am: "Road traffic collision on the M66 near to junction 1.

"The driver of this Lamborghini lost control on standing water and took out a section of barrier before making off on foot prior to police arrival.

"A very expensive mistake.... They don't make very good boats! Vehicle recovered and enqs ongoing."

The crash comes amid heavy rainfall and flooding across some parts of the UK.

And more heavy rain is set to batter parts of south west Scotland later this evening.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather alert for the area.
