Stephane Tribaudini, Donovan Privitelio, Stephane Lemeret, and Karim Ojjeh secured pole positions for the two races of the Lamborghini World Finals, which will crown the champions of the AM and Lamborghini Cup classes this weekend in Misano.
On a humid and cloudy day, the Super Trofeo EVO2 cars began lapping the Marco Simoncelli track to set the starting grids for Race 1 and Race 2 in the two sessions, which will be contested by crews from the European, Asian, and North American series.
Q1
The first 20 minutes saw an abundance of cancelled lap times due to track limits violations and a couple of yellow flags, which were brought out by spins from Philip Tang (DL Racing) and Abdullah Umar (Delta Garage Team). The distractions didn't stop Tribaudini, who was involved in a thrilling battle with Pietro Perolini for pole position in Race 1.
VSR’s Frenchman lapped in 1m35.018s, beating his rival from the Oregon Team by 0.237s in the battle for the overall lead and the AM class. The rest of the field was much further back, more than 0.7s behind, starting with Paolo Biglieri, who will line up in third.
The Argentinean from ASR just got the better of Privitelio (Rexal Villorba), who will start from the second row of the grid in the LC class. Behind him are Dean Neuls (TR3 Racing) and the GT3 Poland pairing of Seweryn Mazur and Adrian Lewandowski, all AM.
Second in LC is Karim Ojjeh, Privitelio's team-mate, in eighth place. Completing the top 10 are Sebastian Carazo (PPM) and Antoine Comeau (Ansa Motorsport). The remaining LC contenders will start further back in the race, with Rocky Bolduc (Rafa Racing) in 15th, followed by Ka Hing Tse (Champion), Holger Harmsen (GT3 Poland), and Francesco Turzo (DL Racing).
Q2
The Q2 session was briefly interrupted by a spin for Turzo at the 'Quercia' corner, which forced the tow truck to lift the #23 ST from the gravel. But when the action resumed shortly after, it was Lemeret who ruled the roost with a time of 1m34.983s, taking a significant gap over the rest of the field.
The Belgian CMR driver, the best of the AM category, soundly beat his class rivals Biglieri and Massimo Ciglia (Oregon), who were more than 0.6s behind, with Antoine Corneau (Ansa) completing the second row.
Ojjeh qualified for the top five and took the LC pole, followed by Lewandowski, Mazur, and Neuls, and then Bolduc, who finished second in the LC class, and David Staab (PPM), who rounded out the top 10.
As with Q1, the second session saw a big gap to the remaining LC drivers, with Harmsen qualifying 16th, Jonathan Hirshberg (Forte) 18th, and Ray Shahi (Forte) 20th.
