You won’t find too many NFL players who are happy with their Madden ratings — aside from maybe the 99-overall club of Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Donald, Stephon Gilmore and Christian McCaffrey. Every player thinks they deserve a better rating.
But the reigning league MVP may have a reason to be upset.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson joined SportsCenter on Monday for the reveal of his Madden 21 rating. Jackson, who is the cover athlete for this season’s game, finished with an overall rating of 92 in last year’s Madden 20. And it was absolutely reasonable for Jackson to expect a significant boost ahead of the latest game.
About that …
Jackson’s opening rating for Madden 21 will be a 94, which puts him behind Mahomes, Russell Wilson and Drew Brees on the quarterback charts. And Jackson wasn’t too happy to hear about it. He expected to have a 96 or 97 rating.
After the legitimate shock of that 94 rating set it, Jackson offered some perspective, “I wish it was better. But hey, it’s better than what it was last year.”
Plus, he’ll have an opportunity to build on that rating with in-season updates. It’s not that bad, Lamar.
