Lamar Jackson says he had no idea Ravens were installing a new offense

In a bit of “hey man, maybe don’t admit this in a press conference” news this week, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson admitted in a press conference that he had no idea the team was installing a new offense this season.

“Coming in, I didn’t know we would have a totally different offense,” Jackson said. “When I got here, coach was like, ‘Yea, we have a totally new system. You’re going to have go through this and that.’ It’s been getting to me a little bit.”

The Ravens brought in Greg Roman to be the team’s offensive coordinator this offseason, replacing Marty Mornhinweg. Apparently Roman has instilled some wholesale changes, and apparently no one thought to tell the team’s quarterback about it.

Is this a big deal? Almost certainly not. This sort of stuff happens all the time. If anything, it’s a refreshing reminder that these NFL teams — which love to project the image that they’re these clinical, efficient, well managed organizations — are really just a mess like every other large organization.

People forget to tell teammates stuff all the time. You’d like the QB to have an idea they’re putting in a new offense, but maybe he missed that email. They’ll get it squared away soon enough.
