LaLiga announce Spanish clubs will return to training this week amid plans to restart competition in June

LaLiga clubs will return to training this week amid plans to restart the competition in June, it has been announced.

Last week, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez revealed a four-phase strategy for a return to a 'new normality' after the coronavirus lockdown and as part of it, professional sports sides were given the green light to resume individual training this Monday.

"LaLiga clubs return to training this week following the approval by the Ministry of Health of the return to sports training," a statement from the league said on Monday.

"In accordance with the Return to Training Protocol that LaLiga has developed with medical experts, individual training of professional players from LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank (Spain's second tier) is starting, once clubs have carried out medical tests."

The government plans mean players will be allowed to train in groups of four from next week and then in larger numbers after that and LaLiga confirmed, as president Javier Tebas has said, that the idea is still to return to action in June.

"This crisis has had a profound impact on all of us," Tebas said. "The return of football is a sign that society is progressing to the new normal. It will also bring back an element of life that people in Spain and all over the world know and love.

"These circumstances do not have precedents, but we hope to start playing again in June and end our 2019-20 season this summer. To come back is to win!"
