Lakers won’t sign Isaiah Thomas to second 10-day contract

The Los Angeles Lakers are not signing Isaiah Thomas to a second 10-day contract, making him a free agent, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Thomas made his season debut on Dec. 17 against the Minnesota Timberwolves and had a promising start with a 19-point game. He followed it up with a 13-point outing against the Chicago Bulls.

However, it all went downhill from there. The 32-year-old guard shot 1-of-11 overall and 0-of-6 from deep in the loss to the Phoenix Suns. Against the San Antonio Spurs in the following game, he shot 1-of-5 overall and 0-of-3 from long range.

Then the Lakers signed Darren Collison to a 10-day deal, which pushed Thomas out of the rotation against the Brooklyn Nets. The writing was on the wall for Thomas after that.

Charania reported multiple teams will have interest in his services. Thomas can still be useful to teams around the league, but it just didn’t work out with the Lakers.
