Lakers vault to the No. 4 overall pick, Pelicans get No. 1 pick

The Anthony Davis Saga had one final, gut-wrenching twist for fans of the Los Angeles Lakers. Although the Lakers vaulted into the top-four, the New Orleans Pelicans came away with the top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and the chance of selecting Zion Williamson.

The Lakers entered with a 9.4% chance of getting into the top-four and managed to come away lucky, but New Orleans got luckier.

When the Minnesota Timberwolves came up in the Lakers draft slot, the start of something special was upon us. And of course in the top four they were with the New York Knicks, another team with their eyes reportedly on Anthony Davis. And it was another team that had their eyes on Davis who landed the coveted No. 1 pick.

It has been a rough two weeks for the franchise after failing to come to terms with Ty Lue to become their coach and settling for Frank Vogel, with Jason Kidd coming along as an assistant. But this lottery luck has changed their fortunes in a great way.

Even though it was reported that the Lakers were hoping to re-open the Anthony Davis sweepstakes, a top pick gives them much more hope of potentially adding the All-Star big man. Or at least adding some more elite young talent to their stable.
