Lakers trade into 2nd round to pick Talen Horton-Tucker

With little in the way of avenues of improving their team on the cheap, the Los Angeles Lakers took advantage of an opportunity to add talent during the second round of Thursday night’s NBA Draft.

The Lakers gave the Orlando Magic a future draft pick and financial considerations in exchange for the 46th pick in the 2019 draft. With the pick, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Iowa State’s Talen Horton-Tucker. Tucker, like LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

The draft was quite busy for all the teams involved, but the Lakers made their biggest moves before the night. While the 4th pick they chose eventually went to Atlanta by way of New Orleans, they were able to add a talented and cost-controlled player in Horton-Tucker for the future. He didn’t meet the Lakers but he’s already very familiar with their two stars.

At 6-4, 240 pounds and a 7-1 wingspan, Horton provides strength and length on the wing. The Simeon High School product averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists during his lone season at Iowa State.
