Lakers sign sharpshooter Troy Daniels to minimum deal

The Los Angeles Lakers are making smart moves as they look to build their team while they await an answer from 2019 Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard on where he will play next season.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Monday morning that the Lakers have come to terms with sharpshooting guard Troy Daniels, who most recently played for the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers are paying Daniels the vet minimum and it will not compromise their cap space as they await Leonard’s answer.

Daniels, as we speculated here a few weeks ago, fit the mold of the types of not-so sexy signings that the Lakers could make. After Seth Curry, another Lakers target went off the market, they quickly came to terms with Daniels.

Daniels is a certified shooter. While he has limitations defensively as a shooting guard with a 6-4 frame, he could provide the Lakers with efficient 3-point shooting at a budget price.

During six NBA seasons, Daniels is a career 40 percent 3-point shooter and is coming off a contract that paid him just over $3 million per season.
