Lakers rest Rondo, let LeBron run point in preseason win vs. Warriors

Although conventional wisdom would have suggested that last night’s preseason home finale for the Los Angeles Lakers could have been a dress rehearsal for head coach Frank Vogel’s first rotation, last night’s 126-93 win over the Golden State Warriors won’t be exactly that for a couple of reasons. The first and most important one being that veteran point guard Rajon Rondo rested during last night’s game, letting LeBron control more of the offense.

James had 18 points and 11 assists in last night’s win against the Warriors, who were resting their MVP guard Stephen Curry. James and Anthony Davis were joined by Avery Bradley, Danny Green and center JaVale McGee in the starting lineup.

Off the bench, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Alex Caruso got the most minutes for the Lakers last night but Dwight Howard and Quinn Cook were also part of the rotation for L.A. last night.

James matched his preseason minutes high of 25 while Anthony Davis played a game-high 28 minutes after coming back from a brief injury scare earlier in the week.

The Lakers have one more preseason game, coming on Friday night back at the Chase Center in San Francisco against the very same Warriors. After that, the Lakers will start preparing for their preseason opener on Tuesday against the L.A. Clippers.
