Lakers realize they were a shot away from being down 2-1

While the Los Angeles Lakers do not need to panic after snapping a six-game playoff winning streak but still being up 2-1 in the Western Conference Finals, they also realize that they are living in a reality in which a coin flip went their way. The Anthony Davis buzzer-beater at the end of Game 2 has given the Lakers considerably more cushion than they would have if roles in the series were flipped and they know that the series is close, even though they’ve had luck go their way so far in the series, according to SB Nation’s Christian Rivas.

If it wasn’t for Anthony hitting an incredible shot … we had 23 turnovers in that game, and we knew after that game, and the next day, and today, that you can’t turn the ball over against this team, especially in the playoffs where every possession counts. You just can’t be careless with the ball,” Kuzma said.

LeBron James had a 30-point triple-double in last night’s game and Anthony Davis had an efficient offensive game, but the Lakers’ defense was oddly littered with mistakes after playing arguably the best defense in the bubble throughout the postseason. Also, the young Nuggets have shown they aren’t going to be broken by a single buzzer-beater. The Lakers need to tie together some extended greatness to push themselves into the NBA Finals.
