Coming off of their fourth loss in five games, the Los Angeles Lakers are scrambling for answers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Lonzo Ball will be part of their solution any time soon.
Following the Lakers’ loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, head coach Luke Walton told Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times that he hasn’t been given any new information on when he should expect his starting point guard back:
“Nope, they haven’t given me a date,” Walton said, referring to the training staff and team doctors. “They just said they are working with him and they’ll let me know.”
Walton did say that he has been in contact with Ball during his rehabilitation, though:
“I like staying in communication with the guys,” Walton said. “So, I check in with him, just make sure to see how he’s doing. I ask about whatever, where his mind is at and those type of things. But we don’t speak daily, no.”
Saturday will mark six weeks since Ball suffered the Grade 3 ankle sprain that has kept him sidelined for the last 13 games. Ball was given an initial timetable of four-to-six weeks, but a recently discovered bone bruise in his left ankle will keep him out a little while longer. The Lakers have gone 4-8 in Ball’s absence.
As more information becomes available. we’ll keep you updated, but it doesn’t sound like we’ll be getting any meaningful updates in the near future.
