Lakers News: Dwight Howard discusses rare ‘second chance,’ title hopes

Everyone is biding their time and watching their words as Dwight Howard and the Los Angeles Lakers try once again to taste NBA success together. As if the stark realities weren’t evident enough, the Lakers introduced Howard on Wednesday morning via conference call rather than via televised event as with the 2012 announcement that featured Howard alongside then-general manager Mitch Kupchak.

Rather than talk of joining Lakers legends Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Wilt Chamberlain in the middle, the focus of Howard’s second introduction was that of a man who sounds fortunate for a rare second chance with the purple and gold.

Howard is also wearing a different number, choosing to be No. 39 in his second stint with the Lakers rather than the No. 12 with which he had a Hall of Fame career. And while there was little talk of the other stars he’s playing with during his introductory press conference, it doesn’t really need to be talked about because that much is clear.

Howard’s approach is the one that Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis need to hear, as well as see, if they are going to get the most out of him.
