Lakers-Nets recap: New Lakers help L.A. pull upset in Brooklyn

In a game that many expected to be a blowout, Saturday night’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets delivered. It just so happened that the blowout was delivered by the team everyone was expected to be the victim on Saturday night. The Lakers delivered an unexpected 126-100 blowout of the mighty Nets, who came into Saturday night as 11-point favorites and the top team in the Eastern Conference.

The ejection of Kyrie Irving in the third quarter was a clear turning point in the scoring, as the Lakers took what was a 4-point lead into double-digits. However, the Lakers were in a position to pull the upset on Saturday night because of two of their newest faces: Andre Drummond and Ben McLemore.

With Kyle Kuzma and Marc Gasol joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the injured list, followed by the Schröder ejection, the Lakers were without five of their best players. So the stage was set for Drummond and McLemore to make an impact with the Lakers, with both delivering under the bright lights in Brooklyn. Drummond finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds while McLemore scored 17 points off the bench.

In the 4th quarter, McLemore put a bow on the game with 3-pointer after 3-pointer to put the Nets away.
