Lakers’ Kostas Antetokounmpo reportedly signs with LDLC ASVEL of EuroLeague

The Los Angeles Lakers will have a busy time in the free-agent market this season as the team is slated to have over 10 free agents.

However, the future of one of those free agents has already been decided.

Kostas Antetokounmpo, who signed with the Lakers on a two-way deal in 2019, is leaving the team to sign with LDLC ASVEL of France in the EuroLeague.

Antetokounmpo was slated to be a restricted free agent this summer, and the Lakers could’ve matched any potential offers to retain him.

However, the 23-year-old big man won’t be playing in the NBA for the foreseeable future.

The EuroLeague released a statement on Antetokounmpo’s signing, via EuroHoops:

“LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne added size and athleticism to its frontcourt by signing Kostas Antetokounmpo to a two-year deal, the club announced on Friday.”

Listed at 6″10″, Antetokounmpo primarily played at center in his limited minutes off the bench, usually transpiring in late-game situations where the result was essentially decided.

Kostas averaged 3.7 minutes in 15 appearances this season, scoring 0.8 points and grabbing 1.3 rebounds.

Antetokounmpo also received interest from other EuroLeague teams, though nothing was officially announced until this move.

The Lakers will have an open two-way spot to fill this summer, and the team has already conducted various workouts ahead of the NBA draft with players who could fill that gap.
