Fresh off winning his second NBA Finals MVP Award, Kawhi Leonard has NBA free agency at a complete standstill. After dishing out over a billion dollars on the first day of NBA free agency, the process has slowed down considerably.
Kawhi Leonard is the most talented free agent left of the market, but is taking his time with his decision. KCP and other top free agents, like Demarcus Cousins, Marcus Morris, and Danny Green, are waiting on Kawhi’s decision to decide their future.
Leonard’s choice is rumored to be between the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Toronto Raptors. Whichever team he selects will instantly become a championship contender. His decision will determine how much other players, such as KCP get compensated. KCP’s role on the Lakers or whatever team he joins is in the air as well. With Kawhi on the Lakers, KCP would be almost an afterthought, but without Leonard, KCP would play a vital role in the success of the Lakers.
If Kawhi joins the L.A. Lakers, then the Lakers would not have much room to re-sign KCP, so Caldwell-Pope would have to decide between taking a minimum contract for the Lakers or signing elsewhere for a more lucrative deal. Once Kawhi Leonard, the second domino of NBA free agency, makes his move, then the rest of the dominoes will begin to fall.
