March 23--The Lakers' investigation of an alleged sexual harassment incident against two women involving Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson was unable to provide any more clarity on what may have happened Sunday in Hollywood.
"We've looked into the situation and spoken to Alexis Jones as well as to Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson. Based on these conversations, our conclusion is that there are different interpretations of what happened," Lakers spokesman John Black said in a statement released Tuesday. "We support Nick and Jordan and believe what they told us about the incident and their actions. We also are supportive of Alexis and her feelings about what happened, about women's rights, and of the fine work Alexis is doing with her organization."
According to Jones, the players, who were in their car stopped at an intersection in Hollywood, made obscene gestures at her and her mother, who were in another vehicle.
Jones, who is the co-founder of I AM THAT GIRL, an online and offline community for women aimed at "inspiring girls to love, express and be exactly who they are," posted photos of the players on her Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts writing: "I pray these pics go viral because THIS is the problem with little boys."
Young denied the allegation in a tweet, though he deleted the missive shortly after its posting.
Still, the Lakers are trying to find a way to reach a peaceful conclusion to the story.
"I had several conversations with Alexis and her publicist, and tried to arrange a meeting between her, Nick and Jordan," Black continued. "Unfortunately, Alexis' schedule didn't allow for this to happen yesterday. We will also continue to stay in touch with her about the possibility of addressing our team about the important issues with which she's involved."
The incident prompted Coach Byron Scott to speak with Young and Clarkson and share his own warning about social media.
"We're living in a society today with camera phones and all the other stuff that you've got at your disposal. Guys are at risk, so they've just got to be careful," Scott said.
