Lakers interviewing Frank Vogel for head coaching job on Thursday

The Los Angeles Lakers have regrouped after the failure to get a deal done with former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue. Whatever is left after the regrouping is up for debate, but they’ve already restarted their coaching search on Thursday.

And their restarting that search with someone they could have had on Ty Lue’s staff as an assistant: former Pacers and Magic head coach Frank Vogel. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news today that Vogel was set to interview with the Lakers cohort that also interviewed Monty Williams and Ty Lue.

Vogel’s name, as well as that of Jason Kidd, came up in the negotiations between Lue and the Lakers before the talks eventually broke down due to the Lakers unwillingness to give Lue a five-year contract. But now it appears that two coaches whom the Lakers may have wanted as a assistants have become two of the top candidates to take the Lakers head job.

Considering the amount of voices within the Lakers and the expansion of the search, coaching search 2.0 is likely going to take a little while.
