Lakers free agency: Avery Bradley wants to stay, but for more years

The Los Angeles Lakers are still waiting to get a clearer picture of their needs ahead of the open of NBA free agency on Friday afternoon. One of the factors they are still waiting for clarity on is whether Avery Bradley will return to the Lakers. According to the latest intel, Bradley does want to be a Laker but he wants to return with the security of more years on his contract, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

SB Nation’s Christian Rivas did the service of transcribing Shelburne’s knowledge on the Bradley situation.

“Avery Bradley has until Thursday to decide whether to pick up his player option. Thursday. Free agency begins on Friday. There is a market for Avery Bradley out there. I am told that he would like to stay in Los Angeles, but he wants another deal. He only has one year on this deal.”

If Bradley opts out, that would give the Lakers more options to add to their team if someone other than Bradley wants to play with LeBron and AD, which should be several of Bradley’s caliber or a few who are even better. Bradley, of course, has other suitors in Milwaukee and Golden State, according to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes.

While Bradley’s decision may put the Lakers behind the eight ball, they are already probably planning for new possibilities should Bradley elect to test his worth on the market.
