The Los Angeles Lakers have received a major boost from Carmelo Anthony’s production off the bench.
Anthony is shooting 52% from deep on the season. He most recently hit 7-of-10 3s in a home win against the Charlotte Hornets.
Home is where Anthony has flourished the most. The 37-year-old forward is shooting 64.4% from deep in Staples Center (38-for-59), and he discussed after the game against Charlotte why that is.
“I feel good. I feel like I’m in a great rhythm. I feel like I’m just taking advantage of what’s out there on the offensive end,” Anthony said. “My teammates are believing in me, finding me, and they’re leaving it up to me to knock those shots down.”
Anthony continued about how playing with Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis and LeBron James give him more space to get good looks.
“They’re open, some of them are coming in transition, when the defense is all the way back, me trailing into the 3, some of them are coming off the attention Russ, AD and even when LeBron was playing,” Anthony said. “The attention that those guys get, just a matter of me getting to the right spot.”
Anthony confirmed Staples Center is a great place for shooters to thrive, but he said it is different as an opponent to actually wearing the purple and gold.
“You get that energy. You get that momentum. The crowd behind you … that’s the Lakers basketball that we need to play,” Anthony said. “We want to make this a tough place to come in and play.”
