Lakers bring back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on two-year deal

After a flurry of free agent moves on Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers joined in. The team agreed to re-sign veteran shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The deal was reported by ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

The deal is reportedly worth $16 million over two years.

This will make it three years in a row that he’s been brought in via free agency by the franchise. He will join teammates LeBron James, Anthony Davis and rookie guard Talen Horton-Tucker as members of Klutch Sports agency on this year’s Lakers roster.

KCP’s return adds to their guard depth including Danny Green and Troy Daniels. He should bring improved shooting and defensive energy to the rotation. It’s likely that he will compete with Green for a spot in the starting lineup.

Caldwell-Pope will likely be in a positional battle with Danny Green for the starting two-guard position on the team. That is unless the Lakers elect to go with two shooting guards and let LeBron James run the show at point guard instead.
